Before leaving
Buy entrance to Palácio da Pena in advance with date and time. Access by private car to Pena and Castelo dos Mouros is not permitted; use public transport or walking routes. Confirm warnings for wind, fire or closures on the same day.
Morning — Pena Park and Palace
08:00 — Train to Sintra
Depart early from Rossio, Oriente or Entrecampos and confirm the CP timetable. From Sintra station, use public transport to the mountains.
09:00 — Entrance to Pena Park
Enter the park in advance. The journey to the palace can take around 30 minutes. The ticket time is when you enter the palace and there is no tolerance for late arrivals. Allow 2h30 to 3h for the palace and part of the park.
Middle of the day — Historic center
13:00 — Lunch in the village
Go down to the historic center and take a real break. Pass by the exterior of the Sint National Palacera and through the streets of the village.
Afternoon — Quinta da Regaleira
15:00 — Gardens, tunnels and palace
Allow at least 2h30. Regaleira uses hourly tickets and allows a maximum tolerance of one hour, but do not organize your day with this delay in mind. The palace and chapel close before the garden.
Effort and conditions
Expect uneven floors, hills and possible fog or rain even when Lisbon is sunny. Bring water, a light waterproof jacket and good-fitting footwear.
