Vila de Rei: An official EN2 stop combining Portugal’s geodesic centre, the town museum, Penedo Furado and the schist village of Água Formosa.

Vila de Rei associates the EN2 with the Geodesic Center of Continental Portugal, marked at Picoto da Melriça, a few kilometers from the town. The Geodesy Museum gives context to the landmark. Penedo Furado, with walkways, waterfall and bathing area, and Aldeia do Xisto de Água Formosa are in different directions. Don't try to pack everything into one short break; confirm flow rate, fire risk and route conditions. The great crossing of the Portuguese interior, with around 739 km between Trás-os-Montes and the Algarve.
