Before leaving Peniche

Book authorised transport and obtain a BerlengasPass for the same date. Check boarding point, sea forecast, cancellation policy and final return. The island access title is not a boat ticket.

Arrival — fishermen’s quarter

Confirm the return time immediately. Do not begin with the fort unless time, heat and group mobility suit the route.

Midday — Fort of São João Baptista

Use the authorised path. The seventeenth-century fort occupies an islet linked by a bridge; steps, sun and uneven ground require suitable shoes and water. Check whether the interior is open.

Afternoon — short walk and Carreiro do Mosteiro

Return with a margin. The small beach can be crowded and bathing conditions change. Do not add boat trips that risk missing the return.

Back in Peniche

If sailings are cancelled, spend the day in Peniche, Cabo Carvoeiro, Baleal and the National Museum of Resistance and Freedom rather than seeking unauthorised transport.

Before you leave

Check opening times, access, bookings and weather warnings with official sources on the day. The suggested journeys are realistic, but traffic, works, wind, heat or rain may change the plan. Wear suitable footwear, carry water and leave time between visits; in protected areas remain on authorised paths and take all litter away. The trip depends on authorised maritime transport, limited capacity and sea conditions. Book before reaching Peniche, carry water and sun protection, follow marked paths and confirm current nature-reserve rules, including restrictions on access, activities and length of stay.
