On the slopes of Gardunha, the village is located among granite outcrops, fountains and the old castle grounds.
What to watch out for
Praça do Município contains the pillory, the baroque fountain and the old Town Hall. Climb to the ruins of the castle and notice the water running through fountains and levadas: the relationship between stone, slope and water lines distinguishes Castelo Novo.
