Framing
Montesinho protects an extensive landscape in the northeast of Trás-os-Montes, with plateaus, mountains, rivers, forests and villages with a strong rural identity. The diversity of habitats supports an important fauna, including the Iberian wolf.
What to watch out for
Use villages like Montesinho, Rio de Onor or Gimonde as gateways and interpret agricultural mosaics, marshes, oak groves and watercourses without intrusively searching for wildlife.
Prepare the visit
The distances are great and winter can bring ice or snow. Plan fuel and meals, follow authorized routes and do not leave pet food behind.
Fit it into the journey
Bragança, Vinhais and the villages in the park allow different circuits; Choose one sector per day to avoid long journeys on local roads.
