Framing
Alvão brings together elevated granite areas and shale valleys, crossed by the Olo River. Fisgas de Ermelo, villages, marshes and watercourses are central elements of a humanized mountain landscape.
What to watch out for
See Fisgas only from viewpoints and official routes and notice the transition between plateau, cliffs, terraces and villages.
Prepare the visit
Do not improvise shortcuts to the waterfalls. Confirm weather, fires and flows; rocks and banks become dangerous after rain.
Fit it into the journey
Vila Real and Mondim de Basto are useful bases for different sectors of Alvão, while Fisgas de Ermelo should only be approached via the recommended access points.
