Framing
Sete Cidades occupies a large volcanic caldera in the west of São Miguel. Lagoons, secondary cones, agricultural slopes and the village form a protected landscape whose appearance varies quickly with clouds and light.
What to watch out for
Combine Vista do Rei with viewpoints and authorized routes inside the caldera, without reducing the visit to the chromatic separation of the Blue and Green Lagoons.
Prepare the visit
Check the weather and trail conditions before leaving. Park only where permitted, stay away from verges and do not enter agricultural land.
Fit it into the journey
Dedicate time to the town, the banks of the lakes and more than one viewpoint; Visibility may change during the day itself and warrant a second attempt.
