Faro is the administrative capital of the Algarve and a gateway to the Ria Formosa. Vila Adentro, the Cathedral, Arco da Vila and the museums form the historical nucleus; the marina and maritime connections open up the lagoon landscape. The beaches are on the barrier islands and peninsulas, with their own access and opening hours, not close to the urban center. Installed inside Vila-Adentro, the cathedral was rebuilt and transformed after attacks and earthquakes; brings together chapels, carvings, tiles and a tower overlooking the Ria Formosa.
