A selection, not an exhaustive list
The main journey favors a geographically coherent axis. The Castles of Portugal directory brings together the individual pages and allows you to explore other monuments without forcing detours on the same trip.
Days 1 and 2 — Guimarães and Santa Maria da Feira
Start at Guimarães Castle and continue to Santa Maria da Feira. They are distinct monuments and both deserve their own time.
Days 3 to 5 — Leiria, Ourém, Tomar and Almourol
Visit Leiria and head to the medieval village of Ourém. The Castle and Palace of the Counts of Ourém is a central stop on this route, not a simple detour. Continue to Tomar Castle and Convento de Cristo and end this axis at Almourol Castle, confirming access in advance. Óbidos appears as an optional detour to the West.
Days 6 and 7 — Marvão, Castelo de Vide and Estremoz
Cross Alto Alentejo during the day and spread your visits over two days.
Days 8 and 9 — Monsaraz and Silves
End between the walled village of Monsaraz and the large fortified enclosure of Silves.
