Before setting out
This route connects medieval Ourém, Agroal’s river landscape and monumental Tomar. A car is recommended. The approximate 55 km covers travel between the main bases and excludes detours and parking.
Day 1 — medieval Ourém
Explore the old hill town, Castle and Palace of the Counts, collegiate church and pillory. Check opening times and accessibility because slopes, uneven surfaces and steps shape the visit.
Day 2 morning — Agroal River Beach
Arrive early for the Nabão spring, natural pool and boardwalk to Parque Natureza when conditions allow. Bathing is optional and depends on the official season, lifeguards and water quality. Traditional claims about the water are not medical treatment.
Day 2 afternoon — Tomar
Continue to Tomar and give the afternoon to the Convent of Christ and castle. If time remains, walk through the historic centre and Praça da República. Do not add Almourol to the same day; it deserves separate planning.
A territorial link
Agroal belongs to Ourém, while the opposite riverbank approaches Sabacheira in Tomar. This location makes the journey coherent without confusing municipal boundaries. Keep the first day focused on Ourém’s hilltop heritage and Agroal’s river landscape, checking seasonal bathing conditions. Tomar and the Convent of Christ deserve the second day without compression. Roads are straightforward, but each stop has separate parking, access and opening arrangements.
